Player Story

The son of former Test batsman turned Australia coach Darren Lehmann, Jake Lehmann made his South Australian debut in 2014/15 after receiving his first rookie contract. A left-hand batsman like his father, he turned his maiden Sheffield Shield century into a big one when he posted 205 against Tasmania in November 2015 and went on to have an outstanding summer, scoring another two First-Class centuries and compiling 623 Shield runs at 44.50. A few years later he had another standout season and was rewarded with his first Neil Dansie Medal as SA’s most outstanding male cricketer in 2019/20. Lehmann remains an important part of the Redbacks' batting line-up where he has consistently performed and played pivotal roles in the team's success. He has a natural aggression and stroke play similar to Darren, but has also shown the ability to anchor an innings and play match-winning knocks, earning the reputation of a dependable middle-order batsman. The left-handed batsman led from the front as captain of the Redbacks for part of the 2022/23 summer in Travis Head’s absence and helped lead the Redbacks to the Marsh Cup Final in 2023.
