Prepare for rare insights and exposure to the inner operations of a professional sporting environment. The Diploma in Sports Management (Cricket) is a one-year course delivered as part of SACA’s (South Australian Cricket Association) education alignment with Flinders University.

The diploma is be based both at Adelaide Oval, as well as the new city-based Flinders University campus. Students will be exposed to multiple departments that operate within a professional sporting organisation and as a result, students will gain an understanding as to how these departments collaborate to deliver a fan facing product – both for Big Bash Leagues and our State-based domestic competitions.

Unlike traditional study methods, students will get real-world experience, gaining between 100 hours’ worth of on-the-job work experience across multiple departments at SACA, including unparalleled and industry leading behind the scenes access to match days at Adelaide Oval.

Furthermore, the understanding students will gain across marketing, match day operations, data-analytics and commercial partnerships will give unparalleled insights to what a career in sport truly looks like.

  • The diploma is ideal for Year 12 leavers, current university students, or career changers who want to start or advance in the sports industry especially in cricket and sports management roles.

  • As this is a full-time diploma, it is not designed to be studied concurrently with another full-time degree. However, we recognise that every student’s circumstances are different. Some students may choose to pause their current studies to complete the diploma, or undertake it after finishing their bachelor. The Flinders admissions and support teams are happy to discuss individual study plans with students who are interested in combining the diploma with their existing degree.

  • The diploma focuses on applied learning and practical assessments rather than traditional exams.

  • Yes, you will complete over 100 hours of practical learning in real sports environments, including industry projects and exposure to professional cricket operations.

  • No, you don’t need prior professional experience in sports or cricket. A passion for the industry and willingness to learn are what matter most.

  • Graduates can pursue roles in sports clubs and organisations, event management, community sport centres, local councils, and other sports operations roles. The diploma is designed with employability at its core, combining practical experience with direct industry exposure. Graduates consistently achieve strong employment outcomes in the sports industry, reflecting the course’s industry alignment and hands-on learning approach.

  • You apply through Flinders University’s admissions portal. Entry is typically based on Year 12 completion or equivalent for mature-age applicants. Specific requirements are outlined on the course page.

  • Yes. It’s developed in partnership with the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) to ensure strong industry alignment, practical relevance, and employer value.

  • Students currently in Australia with a valid visa can apply. This course is not available to students who are outside Australia or who do not hold an appropriate visa. Applicants should check specific visa and admission requirements. If you are unsure, book a chat.
