Player Story

Hailing from country New South Wales, Henry Hunt's cricketing journey began at a young age and he quickly established himself as a talented batsman. An Australian Under 19 representative in 2015/16, Hunt quickly showed he can score heavily across all formats against quality opposition. Hunt joined the West End Redbacks as a rookie for the 2019/20 summer after a standout Toyota Futures League campaign with ACT/NSW Country. The right-hander was the leading run scorer of the competition with 737 runs at 46.06, boasting a high score of 208 plus another four half-centuries.
He made his First-Class debut in October 2019 against Victoria, making his maiden First-Class century in just his fourth match. That included a 293-run partnership with Jake Weatherald, breaking a 52-year-old record for the highest opening partnership for South Australia in First-Class cricket. After an outstanding 2021/22 season, Hunt won both the Neil Dansie Medal as South Australia’s best male player and the Sheffield Shield Player of the Year, an award he shared with Victoria’s Travis Dean. He has at times also captained the Redbacks. With his sound technique and temperament, he has shown great composure at the crease and he possesses a solid defensive game, which allows him to see off the new ball and lay a solid foundation for the rest of the batting line-up. Hunt is also an agile fielder. His athleticism and reflexes have seen him frequently take position at short leg.
