Western Australia claim the Rod Marsh Cup

South Australia have fallen 105 runs short in their pursuit of 422, with Western Australia claiming the Rod Marsh Cup after a hard-fought Sheffield Shield contest.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Western Australia capitalised on favourable batting conditions, declaring their first innings at 5/406. Opener Cameron Bancroft led the way with an outstanding 186, helping the visitors take control of the match from the outset.

South Australia struggled to match Western Australia's first-innings total, dismissed for 154 and conceding a significant deficit. However, the home side responded strongly with the ball after Western Australia chose not to enforce the follow-on.

The visitors were bowled out for 169 in their second innings, giving South Australia a glimmer of hope. Brendan Doggett was the standout performer, claiming 4/51.

Set 422 for victory, South Australia made an impressive start to the chase. At stumps on Day Three they were well placed at 1/182, with Mackenzie Harvey unbeaten on 88 and Nathan McSweeney contributing 57.

Despite the strong foundation, the chase fell short on the final day. South Australia lost wickets at crucial moments and were eventually bowled out for 316, falling 105 runs short as Western Australia secured the Rod Marsh Cup.

South Australia's next match will be against New South Wales at Cricket Central from 11 November.
