Almost 100 students from across Adelaide came together at Karen Rolton Oval earlier this month, as part of the South Australian Cricket Association's annual cricket program for young people who are Deaf or hard of hearing.
The event welcomed students from Brighton Primary School, Klemzig Primary School, Pembroke College, Adelaide High School and Avenues College, providing an opportunity to participate in cricket activities while connecting with peers from across the state.
Now in its third year, the program continues to provide an inclusive environment for students to develop their cricket skills and confidence.
Primary school students participated in a range of Woolworths Cricket Blast activities, while secondary students competed in modified SMASH Series Cricket matches.
South Australian cricketers Thomas Brown and Hayden Schiller attended the event, spending time with participants throughout the day. Adelaide Strikers mascot Smash also made a special appearance.
The event highlighted pathways available for Deaf and hard of hearing cricketers, including opportunities to join local clubs and represent South Australia at the National Cricket Inclusion Championships (NCIC) in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing division.
SACA is currently recruiting players for the South Australian Deaf and Hard of Hearing team, which will compete at the National Cricket Inclusion Championships in Ballarat from January 10-15.
