We are delighted to announce that Mr Jason Gillespie has been awarded Honorary Life Membership in recognition of outstanding achievements as a player and long-term service as a cricket administrator.
A distinguished South Australian cricketer, Gillespie represented the state in more than 110 matches across a 13-year career after making his debut in 1994/95. He was a member of South Australia's Sheffield Shield-winning side in 1995/96 before progressing to a celebrated international career.
Gillespie represented Australia in 71 Test matches, 97 One Day Internationals and one T20 International, making him one of South Australia's most-capped international cricketers. He claimed 259 Test wickets and is widely regarded as one of the state's greatest fast bowlers.
Following his retirement from playing, Gillespie continued to make a profound impact on the game through coaching and mentorship. He led the Adelaide Strikers to their inaugural Big Bash League title in 2017/18 and played a key role in the development of South Australian cricket through nine years as coach of both the Strikers and South Australia.
Beyond his on-field and coaching achievements, Gillespie holds a unique place in Australian cricket history as the first recognised First Nations male cricketer to play Test cricket for Australia. A proud Kamilaroi man, he has been an influential role model whose achievements have helped inspire future generations and promote greater representation within the game.
