Significant progress has been made on the $10 million redevelopment of the Karen Rolton Oval, Gladys Elphick Park / Narnungga (Park 25) precinct, with several major project milestones now complete.
The jointly funded project, supported by a $5 million investment from SACA and $5 million from the South Australian Government, will deliver improved facilities for community, Premier, pathway and state cricket, while enhancing the experience for players and fans alike.
One of the first major milestones has been reached, with the existing Karen Rolton Oval light towers successfully relocated to Park 25 Oval 2.
The relocated light towers now provide 1000 lux on Park 25 Oval 2 which is now fully operational, providing another high-quality venue capable of hosting community and premier cricket fixtures, while also creating additional training opportunities for SACA’s pathway and state programs.
Work is also progressing well on the Eastern Terrace redevelopment. Formwork and concrete terracing are currently underway, with the upgraded grassed terraces set to create a more enjoyable viewing experience for spectators attending matches at Karen Rolton Oval.
Attention will soon turn to the installation of Karen Rolton Oval’s new lighting system, with the replacement light towers scheduled to be erected in late August.
Once complete, the venue will feature 1500 lux Class 1 lighting, meeting the latest Australian Standards and further strengthening its ability to host men’s and women’s state cricket, as well as international women’s matches.
The redevelopment represents a significant investment in the future of cricket in South Australia, with improvements designed to benefit participants at every level of the game.
Construction remains on schedule, with all works scheduled to be completed in early to mid October.
