South Australia proved too strong, claiming a thrilling two-wicket victory over Victoria.
Captain Jemma Barsby led from the front with the ball, taking 3/27 as Victoria were dismissed for 226.
With the bat, Tahlia McGrath was brilliant, top-scoring with 58 from 79 deliveries as SA clinched the win.
Megan Schutt set the tone early, striking with the third delivery of the innings. Tahlia McGrath was influential throughout her spell, finishing with 3/48, while Amanda-Jade Wellington moved within one wicket of equalling Lisa Sthalekar’s WNCL record of 166.
Barsby was the pick of the bowlers, removing the dangerous Sophie Molineux among her three wickets and producing a brilliant run-out to cap off a strong all-round display.
In reply, Courtney Webb provided early momentum with the bat, finishing with 41 from 52 balls. McGrath pushed the chase forward, combining with Hollie Armitage in a crucial 77-run partnership.
The match went down to the final overs, but South Australia held their nerve, with Barsby’s vital 33 guiding the hosts to victory.
South Australia will look to carry that winning momentum into their next clash with Victoria on Thursday, February 5, at Karen Rolton Oval.
