South Australia's Eloise Sheridan set to umpire ICC Women's Cricket World Cup final

South Australia’s Eloise Sheridan is set to umpire the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup final in Navi Mumbai this Sunday (November 2).

She has had a meteoric rise on the international stage since first starting her umpiring career in SACA Premier Cricket in the 2015/16 season.

Her accolades include two Women’s Ashes (2022 and 2025), multiple T20 World Cups and the 2022 Commonwealth Games in the UK, as well as being fourth umpire for the men’s Test between Australia and the West Indies in 2024.

Sheridan also made history in 2023 alongside Claire Polosak as the first women to be appointed as on-field match officials in the Sheffield Shield.

The 40-year-old is just shy of 100 international appearances as a match official.

She will be joined in the final as the on-field umpire by Jacqueline Williams for the clash between India and South Africa, with Sue Redfern and Nimali Perera as the third and fourth umpires respectfully. Michell Pereira will be the match referee.

This World Cup has been the first to have an all-female umpiring panel since the inaugural edition in 1973.

Sheridan’s cricketing career began at the age of 12 playing for Northern Districts, before moving to Sturt to play in the juniors.

Later in her career, she played first grade cricket for both teams, as well as Kensington, before retiring as a 28-year-old in 2014, directly after winning a premiership title.

Starting her umpiring career the following season, Eloise's ability to thrive under pressure saw her quickly progress through the SACA Premier Cricket grades, winning Premier Cricket Umpire of the Year in 2019/20, and moving through the Cricket Australia, and later ICC, umpiring pathways.

After nearly 30 years of being involved in cricket in South Australia, her career as a match official continues to skyrocket. SACA congratulates Eloise on this remarkable achievement, and we are proud to have her representing South Australia at the highest level.
