The Southern Boomerangs are excited to announce the selection of their squad for the 2025 National Indigenous Cricket Championships (NICC), set to take place from April 2-7. The NICC brings together the best Indigenous cricketers from across the country to showcase their skills, celebrate culture, and promote unity through sport.
The 2025 Championships will be contested at Great Barrier Reef Arena and Harrup Park in Mackay, Queensland, on Yuwibara Country, after moving from Arrernte Country in Alice Springs. This venue has become a frequent host for international cricket, providing an exciting opportunity for the Southern Boomerangs to showcase their talents on the national stage.
“The National Indigenous Cricket Championships are a fantastic opportunity for our squad to showcase their skills and represent their state, communities and themselves. We have had a positive lead into the Championships and are honing our skills towards the T20 brand of cricket we want to play,” Head Coach, James Dunn said.
This year’s squad represents a blend of experienced players and emerging talent, all of whom have demonstrated exceptional ability and passion for the game. Competing at the NICC creates pathway opportunities for players and provides a platform for their growth and development.
“We want to set the players up for success so they can showcase their skills at the National Championships. We're looking forward to a competitive and exciting tournament. The younger players that are in the squad have come through the Aboriginal Junior Academy pathway, which has been a great success over the past four years, and it will continue to develop young First Nations people,” Dunn said.
