Code of Behaviour – Match Officials

Match Officials (including umpires and scorers) play a central role in maintaining the integrity and fairness of cricket.  This Code of Behaviour – Match Officials should be read in conjunction with the Code of Behaviour – General.

Note: This Code applies to any person acting in the capacity and role of a Match Official, including umpires and scorers (whether they are players, coaches, player support personnel, parents or other family or spectators).  

Match Officials are expected to:

  • Complete and maintain appropriate education and have a strong knowledge of the Laws of Cricket, relevant by-laws and playing conditions and applicable Australian Cricket and SACA guidelines.
  • Officiate and manage matches in accordance with the Laws of Cricket, relevant by-laws and playing conditions and applicable Australian Cricket and SACA guidelines.
  • Be impartial, consistent and objective when making decisions.
  • Maintain open, transparent and respectful communication with all participants.
  • Cooperate with and support other members of the Match Officials team.
  • Ensure that required safety equipment is used and that safety-related playing conditions are applied appropriately, relevant to the age and development of participants.
  • Never perform their role while impaired by or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Respect and maintain the privacy, dignity and personal space of players and other participants.
