Code of Behaviour – Coaches & Player Support Personnel
Coaches and player support personnel play a critical role in shaping a positive, safe and inclusive team environment and in influencing the overall experience of players and their families. This Code of Behaviour – Coaches & Player Support Personnel should be read in conjunction with the Code of Behaviour – General.
The below general Code of Behaviour applies to all cricket participants and should be read in conjunction with the relevant role-specific Code(s) of Behaviour.
Coaches and player support personnel are expected to:
- Complete appropriate education and implement a player-centred approach to coaching and support.
- Focus on enjoyment, development and understanding what motivates players.
- Treat players with respect and do not ridicule, berate or yell at players for mistakes or performance outcomes.
- Provide all players at junior level with a fair and reasonable opportunity to participate.
- Be reasonable in demands placed on players’ time and energy, relative to the level of competition.
- Always respect the decisions of Match Officials.
- Maintain open, honest and respectful communication with players, player support personnel, parents and Match Officials.
- Ensure that activities, equipment, facilities and conditions meet safety standards and are appropriate to the age and development of players.
- Be aware of and adhere to cricket-specific injury management and return-to-play guidelines.
- Never perform their roles while impaired by or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
- Ensure any physical contact with a child or young person is appropriate to the situation and necessary for the player’s skill development.
