Wellington, de Broughe steer SA to victory over Queensland in WNCL

South Australia battled their way to a four-wicket victory over the Queensland Fire with more than ten overs to spare.

Amanda-Jade Wellington impressed with the ball, claiming 5/42 to help skittle Queensland for 180.

With the bat, Emma de Broughe’s 71, supported by Jemma Barsby’s unbeaten 42, then guided SA home.

Darcie Brown and Megan Schutt struck early before Queensland fought back. Tahlia McGrath, Barsby and Schutt again managed to stem the flow of the middle-order before Wellington ripped through the final five wickets.

Her 5/42 from 8.5 overs moves her closer to Lisa Sthalekar’s WNCL record of 166 wickets.

In the second innings, South Australia slipped to 5/57, but a brilliant sixth-wicket stand between de Broughe and Barsby all-but-sealed victory for SA. The opener eventually fell for a watchful 71 off 104.

Barsby, now joined by Wellington, knocked off the final 21 to give SA their first victory of 2026.

SA will look to back up their win when they face Queensland again on Thursday, January 22.
