Local talent, Beth Worthley, has been added to the South Australian playing list ahead of the 2025/26 domestic women’s season.
Adelaide born and raised, Worthley is well known amongst the sporting scene with strong backgrounds in softball and netball, before picking up a cricket bat for the Unley Gunners Cricket Club as a fill-in and the sole female representative.
Worthley consistently impressed and transitioned to Sturt Cricket Club where she has been a standout performer in the women’s program, highlighted by her match-winning 126* in Sturt’s T20 Grand Final victory against Glenelg at Adelaide Oval in February.
Last year, Worthley competed for Australia in the U19 Tri-Series against Sri-Lanka, where the handy wicket-keeper contributed with the gloves and in the field taking 10 catches across the series.
Worthley was also instrumental in South Australia Women Second XI’s seven wicket win over New South Wales earlier this year, top scoring with an undefeated 71*.
Worthley has expressed her excitement at joining the South Australian Women alongside Sturt and South Australia opening batter, Emma de Broughe.
“I’m super excited and grateful to have been given this opportunity to represent South Australia at the top level,” said Worthley.
“I’ve been fortunate to have exposure to a lot of these girls through the Premier Cricket and representative pathways and owe a lot to players like Emma de Broughe who have been beside me on my journey so far.
“I can’t wait to get to work and keep learning and growing alongside this group that has seen a lot of success.”
New South Wales leg-spinner, Isabella Malgioglio, has also signed with South Australia ahead of the upcoming season.
A product of the NSW pathway system, Malgioglio has proved her worth since debuting for the NSW Breakers in 2022.
Malgioglio signed as a local replacement player for the Sydney Thunder in WBBL|09 and to the Sydney Sixers playing list in WBBL|10, making contributions in her exposure to the WBBL environment.
Malgioglio also took 30 wickets in First Grade cricket for the Parramatta District Cricket Club last season at an average of 20.6, sporting best figures of 5-36 against Sydney University.
Having lined up alongside spin queens Ashleigh Gardner, Sophie Ecclestone and Amelia Kerr last season, Malgioglio shared her excitement at playing alongside a playing group with vast experience, including the WNCL’s record breaking wicket-taker in Amanda-Jade Wellington.
“I’m incredibly eager to get down to South Australia this year and am grateful for the opportunity to learn from an experienced group of players.
“I am very excited for the opportunity to play on Adelaide Oval and Karen Rolton Oval and I can’t wait to get together with the ground in the next couple of weeks and get started.”
Worthley and Malgioglio’s signings follow the exciting signing of rookie Maggie Clark last week.
The full South Australia Women’s squad will be announced in coming weeks.
