The SA Scorpions have lost their first WNCL match of the season, falling just short against Western Australia at Karen Rolton Oval on Thursday.
A century from Bridget Patterson and 96 not out innings from Courtney Webb wasn’t enough to get the Scorpions over the line, losing by three wickets.
At the beginning of the day, the Scorpions won the toss and elected to bat again, going on to make 4-259.
Patterson anchored the innings, hitting her seventh List A century and was very well supported by Webb, who just ran out of time to score her ton, finishing on 96 not out at the end of the 50 overs.
Western Australia had two big partnerships to begin their innings, looking on track at 3-210.
However, some brilliant fielding got the Scorpions back into the game in their bowling innings, with two direct hits from Maddie Penna and Patterson respectively, bringing life to the Scorpions’ defence.
Four wickets fell in the final 10 overs but it was too little too late and Western Australia chased the runs with 10 balls remaining.
The WNCL will take a break during the upcoming WBBL season, with the Scorpions next match scheduled for Tuesday, December 12 against Tasmania in Hobart.
