Batter
South Australian local Kelvin Smith is a left-handed batter who made his Sheffield Shield debut at 19-years-old for the West End Redbacks, having been named Player of the Tournament at the 2011/12 Under 19 National Championships. Also at 19, Smith was unveiled as the youngest captain in the 156-year history of the West Torrens District Cricket Club. In the 2017/18 season, Smith was named the joint winner of the Bradman Medal as the best player in Premier Cricket. Smith was originally contracted to the Redbacks in 2013 and played 20 Shield matches, before losing his contract ahead of the 2019/20 season. After four seasons outside SACA, great form in Premier Cricket earned Smith another opportunity at State level and he played in the Marsh Cup Final, in what was his debut One Day Cup match no less, and the last Shield match of the 2022/23 season, impressing in both. Those performances, along with his consistent Premier Cricket numbers, helped him to be recontracted by the Redbacks ahead of the 2023/24 season.
