South Australia Name 2026 National Indigenous Cricket Championship Squads

South Australia has confirmed its two teams for the 2026 National Indigenous Cricket Championships (NICC) on Yuwibara Country in Mackay.

In the Men’s Division, the SA Boomerangs will look to improve on last year’s performance with Liam Connors (Woodville Cricket Club) stepping into the captain’s role. The team will play against seven teams, including the Papua New Guinea Men’s National team (Barramundis). Four new players are included in the squad, including Tyree Burgoyne from Port Lincoln’s Southern Eyre South Cricket Club. Burgoyne showcased he is one to watch at the recent trial game on Adelaide Oval against an SA Country XI, top-scoring with 56.

In the Women’s Division, South Australia makes its return to the Championships with the support of players from Northern Territory and Papua New Guinea. Excitingly, there are several young players in the team, including Anne Dubois (Adelaide Cricket Club), who was selected to be part of the MCC Indigenous Training Camp, which was held at the MCG early this season. The women will play against four teams – Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia.

Teams will compete in a round-robin T20 format from 14-19 April, with the exception of Friday 17 April, which has been reserved as a cultural activity day. South Australia Cultural Mentor Jade Wilson reflected that, “The upcoming NICC in Mackay is a special opportunity for the SA Desert Peas to bring together our sisters from the Northern Territory and the South Pacific Islands. While we celebrate our collective cricket excellence, I am especially proud to be part of such a powerful three-way cultural exchange.”

NITV will broadcast finals across the weekend, with live or on-demand viewing available on SBS On Demand. All other matches can be streamed via Cricket Australia’s YouTube Channel. Fixtures are available via Cricket Australia State Competitions on PlayHQ or the PlayCricket App.
