South Australia allrounder Liam Scott has capped off a breakout season by being named the 2025/26 Sheffield Shield Player of the Year.
The 25‑year‑old enjoyed a standout campaign, polling 15 votes to finish atop the umpire‑judged leaderboard. Victoria’s Mitch Perry (14 votes) placed second, with South Australia’s Nathan McAndrew and Tasmania’s Beau Webster equal third on 13.
Scott said the recognition was an honour, but his focus remains firmly on the team’s ultimate goal.
“It’s great to receive this recognition, but we’ve got a huge game this week, and honestly, I’d trade any individual award for winning the Sheffield Shield,” Scott said.
“I’ve put in a lot of hard work over the past couple of years, so this award is a nice acknowledgement of that effort. I take a lot of pride in contributing to team success, whether that’s with South Australia or the Adelaide Strikers, so it’s great to feel like I’m making an impact on the game.
“I owe a lot to South Australia and to head coach Ryan Harris for giving me the chance to come here and play professional cricket. I’m incredibly grateful for that opportunity.”
Across nine matches this season, Scott delivered consistently with bat and ball, finishing with 496 runs at an average of 41.33 and 23 wickets at 25.52.
His season included several standout performances:
- 53 and match figures of 5/62 against Tasmania (Round 4)
- A superb 147 in the return clash with Tasmania (Round 6)
- Season‑best figures of 5/33 against Queensland (Round 8)
Scott’s all‑round contributions have played a crucial role in South Australia returning to the Sheffield Shield Final, which will be played at CitiPower Centre from Thursday.
