SA name 13-man squad for shield match against NSW

In another crucial Sheffield Shield fixture, South Australia has named a 13-man squad for its home clash with New South Wales beginning Thursday, March 5, at Karen Rolton Oval.

The line-up features four changes from the group that faced Queensland in their previous Shield outing.

After an iconic Ashes campaign that included three centuries - one of them on his home wicket at Adelaide Oval, Travis Head returns to the squad. This will be Head's first time representing South Australia in Shield format on home soil since October 2022. He’ll be looking to carry his Ashes form over to Karen Rolton Oval, a ground where he boasts a career average of 71.6.

Ben Manenti also comes back into the squad following his T20 World Cup campaign with Italy, where the nation debuted in the tournament and claimed its first win.

Henry Thornton has returned from injury which has kept him out of the previous Shield matches, while Tim Oakley has also been named. Mackenzie Harvey and Lloyd Pope make way as Campbell Thompson is sidelined due to injury.

In their most recent four-day fixture, South Australia secured a seven-wicket victory to climb into third on the ladder, sitting just 0.95 points behind Queensland. Liam Scott delivered a standout Player of the Match performance, spearheading the attack with 5/33 in the first innings. Jake Lehmann led the chase with a composed 74 from 123 balls, before Nathan McAndrew’s 5/32 in the second innings extinguished any Queensland resistance and helped seal the win for South Australia.

Squad of 13: Jordan Buckingham, Alex Carey, Travis Head, Henry Hunt, Hanno Jacobs, Jake Lehmann, Ben Manenti, Nathan McAndrew, Nathan McSweeney, Tim Oakley, Jason Sangha, Liam Scott and Henry Thornton.
