South Australia’s hunt for back-to-back Sheffield Shields has been bolstered following an emphatic seven-wicket victory against Queensland at the Gabba inside just three days.
A dominant display by quick Nathan McAndrew dashed any hopes of a Queensland victory early on day three, with the paceman claiming three wickets in just six balls.
His incredible efforts with the ball (5 for 32 off 15 overs) helped restrict Queensland to just 119 in the second innings - only adding eight runs to their overnight score.
Despite losing three early wickets, skipper Nathan McSweeney and Alex Carey were able to guide our side home, chasing down the total just after lunch.
The incredible victory was set up by performances across the board for South Australia, with all-rounder Liam Scott (five wickets) and debutant Campbell Thompson (2 for 16 off 14 overs) leading the way with the ball in the first innings.
Jake Lehmann continued with his run of strong form (72), resuscitating our first innings alongside Scott, with the pair combining for a crucial 90-run stand.
South Australia now sits third on the ladder, with two crucial games next month against Victoria and New South Wales.
