SA claim thrilling one wicket win over Queensland Fire

South Australia dug deep to secure a thrilling one-wicket victory over the Queensland Fire in a nail-biting contest.

Darcie Brown was outstanding with the ball, finishing with 5/45, while Courtney Webb led the way in the run chase with a valiant 50.

After losing five wickets for 29 runs, Eleanor Larosa and Brown combined for a record-breaking 10th-wicket stand, the highest ever in a successful run chase, which paved the way to an incredible victory.

Having elected to bowl first, Brown set the tone early, getting the first two wickets of the innings, with captain Jemma Barsby providing strong support as she finished with 3/45.

Amanda-Jade Wellington and Megan Schutt also contributed, picking up a wicket apiece as Queensland were eventually bowled out for 194, despite resistance from the lower order.

In reply, South Australia lost a few early wickets before Webb and Maddie Penna steadied the innings with a crucial 93-run partnership, giving the side a solid platform in the chase.

However, as Mick Delaney's team closed in on the target, the middle order stumbled, leaving the side in a precarious position. What followed was a remarkable final-wicket stand, with Larosa and Brown holding their nerves to guide SA to a memorable victory.

South Australia will now return home and look to continue their winning form when they take on Victoria at Karen Rolton Oval on Tuesday, February 3.
