Lyon spins England away

A spell of spin bowling masterclass from Nathan Lyon has Australia within touching distance of the Ashes.

Three wickets in the span of just four overs to the veteran off spinner, including the set Harry Brook and Zak Crawley, has handed Australia the days play after a composed fight back from England earlier in the day.

Australia begun with the local stars of Adelaide Oval Travis Head and Alex Carey set to continue their historic partnership, but it wasn't to be, with England finding their line and reducing Australia to just 78 additional, with England set 435 for victory.

England's batting, faced with the prospective of having to make history and complete the largest ever successful chase in Test history, seemed destine for failure with the early departure of Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope, curtesy of Pat Cummins.

However, despite the buzz of inevitability continuing to swirl around the innings, England looked unfazed during the batting of Zak Crawley, Joe Root, and later Harry Brook, with a few heads beginning to turn to the 'what if' of the chase.

But Lyon was determined to not allow England back into this game. As the ball grew old and the footmarks deepened, the newly anointed Member of the Adelaide Oval Avenue of Honor lifted the crowd to their feet, first dismissing Harry Brook, then Ben Stokes, and finally Zak Crawley, ending any hope of the historic chase.

With four wickets left to get to retain the Ashes Urn, Australia will walk out tomorrow confident to end the series here at Adelaide Oval.

At the end of play on Day Four, England are 6/207 trailing by 228 runs.
