Australia Lead After Day Two

Australia have one hand on the urn after a dominant display at Adelaide Oval on Day Two.

With only 2 wickets remaining Australia were bowled out within an hour in the first session, but not before Australia added a further 45 runs thanks to a Mitchell Starc 50.

With the series on the line, England came out determined to fight back. Ben Duckett showed glimpses of intent early, but the visitors faltered once again. Only Ben Stokes and Harry Brook offered meaningful resistance as wickets continued to tumble.

Nathan Lyon ensured Australia stayed firmly in control, striking twice in his opening over, including an incredible ball that bowled Duckett and saw the off-spinner become the second highest wicket-taker ever for Australia, surpassing cricketing legend Glenn McGrath.

Pat Cummins, back in the XI, made his presence felt by removing Joe Root and later Jamie Smith. Scott Boland added to England’s misery with a double strike in a single spell, leaving the tourists in deep trouble.

As stumps were called, Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer remained unbeaten. They’ll resume tomorrow under immense pressure, knowing England need everything to go their way to keep the series alive.

At the end of play on Day One, England are 8/213 trailing by 158 runs.
