South Australia emerged victorious in a tense, low-scoring Sheffield Shield clash, defeating Tasmania by three wickets on Day Three.
After winning the toss and electing to bowl, Test hopeful Brendan Doggett (5-66) continued his impressive form, claiming a fourth five-wicket haul in just five Shield innings. Supported by all-rounder Liam Scott (3-46), South Australia bowled Tasmania out for 209 in their first innings.
The visitors’ reply never gathered momentum, with rain and lightning repeatedly interrupting play. South Australia were eventually dismissed for 177, conceding a 32-run deficit. Alex Carey (59) top-scored in an aggressive effort.
The match then swung dramatically thanks to Ben Manenti. The bowling all-rounder sparked a Tasmanian collapse of 8-62, as the hosts were bundled out for 177 in their second innings. Manenti (3-26), Scott (2-16), and Henry Thornton (3-26) were the architects of the damage, helping South Australia restrict Tasmania to only setting a target of 209 for victory.
Chasing with two days in hand, South Australia stumbled early to 5-88. But a familiar pairing of Manenti and Scott steadied the ship, guiding the visitors home in a nervy finish to secure a three-wicket win.
South Australia now turn their attention to the One-Day Cup, facing Tasmania at Kingston Twin Ovals on 15 November.
