South Australia defeat Queensland in dominant display

South Australia claimed a dominant nine-wicket victory over Queensland during a rain-affected game at Karen Rolton Oval.

Henry Thornton and Nathan McAndrew got early breakthroughs to leave the visitors 2-16 after five overs before rain forced the players off the field.

Eventually play was able to restart, with the game shortened to 25 overs per team.

Continual wickets kept South Australia on top, with skipper Nathan McSweeney picking up career-best figures in List A cricket.

He took 3-12 off 3.1 overs and was ably assisted by Lloyd Pope and Liam Scott, who snagged two-wickets each, as Queensland were bowled out for 128 inside 24 overs.

With a rain adjusted required total of 120, Mackenzie Harvey and Jake Fraser-McGurk got our boys off to a good start.

Fraser-McGurk peppered the fence with a flurry of boundaries, before being dismissed for 27 off 14.

Harvey, now alongside his captain, powered South Australia along as they eased their way to the total.

He made a run-a-ball 52*, while McSweeney made 38*.

The 25-year-old has been in fine form with the bat this season, with his third fifty in four ODC games.

South Australia has a week off before their next game, a Sheffield Shield match against Western Australia.

Adelaide Oval hosts a sold-out day-night ODI between Australia and India on Thursday, October 23.
