South Australia fall short in Patterson's 100th

It was a hot day again at Adelaide Oval on Monday as South Australia and Queensland met for their second clash in three days, an occasion that was also marked by Bridget Patterson’s 100th WNCL match, an incredible feat.

Both sides were announced unchanged at the toss, where Jess Jonassen won this time and elected to bat first.

Much of Queensland’s innings felt a repeat of the two days' previous.

Courtney Neale struck early before Georgia Redmayne and Charli Knott partnered up and put the visitors in a strong, early position.

It was Alex Price who made the breakthrough and claimed the dangerous wicket of Redmayne (50) and Jonassen (6) quickly after.

Unable to keep the momentum, Knott (110) and Grace Harris (60) both made significant contributions before a fluster of wickets by Amanda-Jade Wellington.

Wellington (4-61) finished with South Australia’s best bowling figures and a late cameo from Sianna Ginger meant South Australia required 328 runs to win.

Unfortunately, both Patterson and Emma de Broughe were unable to convert and fell early to Nicola Hancock.

After a fantastic century two days prior, Courtney Webb again contributed with 62, but it was Hollie Armitage who starred with the bat bringing up her century off just 82 balls.

As she often does, Maddi Penna (42) gave it her all and took the chase deep into the innings, but quick lower order wickets meant that Queensland were able to take the win with 40 runs to spare.

South Australia will travel to Cricket Central, Sydney Olympic Park for their next fixture against New South Wales on 7 February 2025.
