South Aussie Shrey Patel to compete in DICC T20 World Cup

South Australian all-rounder Shrey Patel will represent Australia at the Deaf International Cricket Council T20 World Cup being held in Dubai this week.

Shrey earned selection after an impressive National Cricket Inclusion Championships in January, where he was named in the Deaf Cricket Australia Team of the Tournament.

One of the youngest players selected in the World Cup side at only 18-years-old, Shrey has previously represented Australia in an International Inclusion Series.

That series two years ago was the last time the deaf team competed on the International Stage, making the World Cup all the more exciting.

Shrey said it was a privilege to travel and represent Australia at the World Cup.

“My journey from local grounds to international stage serves as an inspiration, showcasing the power of dedication and support in achieving dreams,” Shrey said.

“It's terrific to have the continued support of my East Torrens District Cricket Club and my childhood Gaza Cricket Club.

“Playing at the most prestigious level for Australia added a golden feather to my cap and being one of the youngest players nominated for the tournament makes me thrilled.”

The six-day tournament begins in Dubai on Wednesday, March 6 and the Australian’s will take on Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, South Africa and India as they aim to secure themselves a spot in the finals, to be held on March 11 and 12.
