Scorpions name squad for clashes with Fire

The Women’s National Cricket League season recommences this week after a festive season sojourn with the SA Scorpions travelling to Queensland for back-to-back clashes with the table-topping Fire at Allan Border Field.

Thirteen Scorpions have travelled to Brisbane for the matches on Friday and Sunday.

Squad of 13 for Round Four v Queensland: Jemma Barsby (C), Bridget Patterson (VC), Sam Betts, Emma de Broughe, Josie Dooley, Eleanor Larosa, Anesu Mushangwe, Courtney Neale, Maddie Penna, Kate Peterson, Courtney Webb, Amanda-Jade Wellington, Ella Wilson

Coming off heartbreaking losses to Tasmania in December and currently sitting third in the standings, the Scorpions will be looking to fight their way back into the all-important top two with wins in the north.

Young gun Eleanor Larosa returns to the squad after a sensational Under 19 National Championships that saw her register a remarkable century and destructive five wicket haul in the same game. Should Larosa appear on a team sheet this week it will be a State debut for the 18-year-old.

Reigning WNCL Player of the Tournament Courtney Webb leads the run-scoring tally for South Australia with 280 at an average of 70, while Kate Peterson and Amanda-Jade Wellington sit atop the wicket pile with 12 apiece.

For the Fire, Georgia Redmayne and Courtney Sippel lead the League in runs and wickets, with 318 and 15 respectively, and will be two players circled on Scorpions Head Coach Luke Williams' whiteboard this week.

Megan Schutt, Darcie Brown and Tahlia McGrath are all unavailable for selection while playing for Australia against India.

Both matches begin at 10am ACDT and can be watched live on cricket.com.au and Kayo Sports.
