The Hamilton Easter Series, pitting the SACA Under-19’s squad against counterparts Vic Metro, Vic Country and Cricket Victoria Colts, was born out of the cancellation of the National Championships due to Covid-19 related difficulties.'
Will Bowering (3/33) and captain Ryan King (57* from 56) were instrumental in getting South Australia over the line in the 50-over final against Vic Metro in a rain-affected contest. Both Bowering and King were also named in the Team of the Series alongside teammates Kyle Brazell and Sam Rahaley.
Earlier in the series, South Australia went undefeated through a trio of T20 fixtures, successfully chasing totals in the opening fixtures against Vic Country and Metro, before defending a competitive score against Colts.
Brazell was named Most Valuable Player at the conclusion of the series and Bowering finished as leading-wicket taker with 16 at an average of 12.5, including three games with three wickets.
The Hamilton Easter Series was made possible thanks to the efforts of coaching and administration staff from both SACA and Cricket Victoria, with both working tirelessly to ensure this display of cricket’s future was able to be showcased.
SACA Under-19 Head Coach John Palmer spoke glowingly of the series in the immediate aftermath:
“It was fantastic to see our players have the opportunity to execute their skills under pressure and away from home. I couldn’t be prouder of their efforts; this was a wonderful way to end our season and we are extremely thankful for Cricket Victoria for hosting this unique event.”
