The Scorpions took on Queensland at Allan Border Field on Friday and despite a loss, the young squad showed some promising signs.
De Broughe top-scored with 35, while O’Neil provided support, compiling 34 in an entertaining innings that included four fours and a six.
Tabatha Saville (29) and Bridget Patterson (27) also made starts with the bat, helping SA to 220.
In reply, Queensland continued to bat beyond the required total to maximise match practice time, making it to 9/300 inside 45 overs.
Medium-pacer Oates took 3/40 from eight overs, including one maiden, while Sammy Betts collected two wickets.
The Scorpions were without key players Tahlia McGrath and Amanda-Jade Wellington who are both playing in the Kia Super League in the UK, plus captain Megan Schutt who joined the squad in Brisbane late on Friday.
The squad will play Queensland again on Sunday before returning to Adelaide.
