Tahlia McGrath starred on the opening weekend of the Statewide Super Women's 1st Grade competition. Last season’s Andrea McCauley medalist headlined West Torrens win over Glenelg, ending her afternoon 172 not out. Having handled the work with the bat and the Eagles finishing with 3/268, McGrath handed over to her captain, Jess Joseph.
The West Torrens skipper worked her way through Glenelg's top-order, snagging an ultra-impressive 6/33, propelling her to the top of the wicket-taking leaderboard after the first round. Despite the best efforts of Courtney Webb (64) and Anesu Mushangwe (50), the Seahorses were dismissed for 197.
Northern Districts enjoyed a substantial win over their Southern counterpart, with Cate Dunemann (51 not out) and Sam Betts (55) each collecting a half-century. Jemma Barsby was equally influential for the Jets, enjoying an outstanding spell with the ball (5/17).
Sturt opened its winning account with a 18-run victory over Kensington at home. Josie Dooley (62) and Emma de Broughe (71 not out) continued their positive form from the Twenty20 competition, helping the Blues to 7/233 after 50 overs. Rachel Church (61) was the top-scorer for the visitors, however the Browns were dismissed for 215 in the final over.
Next up Southern District will face West Torrens, Kensington is up against Northern Districts and Glenelg will go head to head with Sturt.
