The fourth day crowd lifted the total to 179,049, surpassing the previous record of 172,361 set over six days of the 1933 Bodyline Test.

On the first three days of this Magellan Ashes Test – the 76th Test match played at Adelaide Oval since 1884 -  attendance figures were 55,317 (day one), 52,201 (day two) and 43,088 (day three).

Saturday’s attendance was the largest crowd at any sporting event at Adelaide Oval since the stadium’s redevelopment was completed in 2014, beating the 53,817 for this year’s AFL preliminary final between Adelaide and Geelong and passing the crowd of 52,633 for the BBL semi-final between the Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Sixers in 2015.

Entry to day five will be by gold coin donation to Lord’s Taverners Australia and Cricket Australia’s newly-formed Sporting Chance Fund.
