A day after the Browns’ women clinched the Statewide Super First Grade Twenty20 Cup, Kensington made the most of batting first to post 4/328 from its 50 overs and then dismissed Sturt for 227 to secure its first One-Day title since 2009-10.
Player of the Final John Dalton top scored for Kensington with 104 from 83 balls but he had plenty of batting support. Openers Jake Brown (48) and Paul Allegretto (66) added 117 for the first wicket and later in the innings Rob White smashed an unbeaten 75 from 55 balls in a 142-run partnership with Dalton, including 88 off the last eight overs.
Sturt’s hopes dipped further early in its innings with openers Jacob Dick and Connor Dudley both falling cheaply to catches off Kensington quick Elliot Opie.
Thomas Kelly (44), Brad Davis (67) and Ty Watson (46) kept the score moving but leg-spinner Lloyd Pope took four wickets in the middle overs and Opie took another two wickets in his second spell to finish with 4/39 from 8.2 overs.
