Left-hand batsman Lehmann will captain the side in the absence of Travis Head who has been selected for the Australian Test series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates.

Jake’s father Darren captained 51 one-day matches for South Australia, and he holds the SA record for most runs in the competition with 3963 at 55.04.

Lehmann has showed impressive form and leadership this pre-season in a series of Lehmann XI v Ross XI practice matches, and he struck the third-fastest half-century in Australian domestic 50-over cricket from just 22 balls last year.

General Manager, High Performance Tim Nielsen expects Lehmann to thrive in his new role with a solid South Australian side.

"We believe this squad is a strong group of players with a wealth of experience domestically and increasing exposure on the international stage,” he said.

"We are extremely proud that our captain Travis Head has earned a Test spot for the Pakistan series and we can expect that Jake, who displays good tactical and man management skills, will take to this new leadership role with energy and skill.

“It is a great opportunity for the leadership of the team to continue to broaden and Jake to take a significant step forward in his personal and cricketing development.”

Rookie quick Spencer Johnson earns selection for the second consecutive year after making his List A debut against Victoria in 2017, while wicketkeeper-batsman Harry Nielsen could make his List A debut for South Australia after playing six matches for the CA XI.

SA will play their first match against New South Wales at the WACA next Thursday, 20 September. The match will be broadcast live on Fox Sports and the Cricket Network.
