Needing 281 runs to win, SA slumped to 8/66 before some late hitting from Cam Valente (48) and Nick Winter (59) stretched the total to 173.
Nick Winter’s 8/58 from 16.1 overs in Queensland’s first innings on the first day was the clear highlight of the match for the visitors.
After Queensland recovered from 5/34 to reach 219 on the back of Charlie Hemphrey’s determined 113, SA also fought back from 6/78 to take a 15-run first innings lead thanks to Tom Andrews (59 n.o.), Valente (48) and Luke Robins (21).
Valente and Winter took three wickets each as Queensland was dismissed for 295 in its second innings but SA’s hopes of winning faded when it lost three wickets with the total stuck on eight.
