The GG XI will play a Twenty20 fixture at Drummoyne Oval in Sydney on Tuesday, 28 January.

Patterson and McGrath have been selected for Australia A, Cricket Australia XI and now, GG XI, squads over the past two months and continue to push their case for national selection.

Patterson leads the Women’s National Cricket League for runs with 257 at an average of 64.25, while McGrath is averaging 31.40 and also has nine wickets to her name from five matches.

In its fifth year, the Governor-General’s XI match – inspired by the traditional Prime Minister’s XI game – pits some of the best young female players in Australia against a touring team.

This year’s match will be played on the eve of the Commonwealth Bank T20 Tri-Series between Australia, England and India, which starts in Canberra on Friday, 31 January.

Speaking on the selection of the team, National Selector Shawn Flegler said:

“There’s some strong, in-form batters in the side including Bridget Patterson, Tahlia McGrath, Josie Dooley, Phoebe Litchfield and Heather Graham who will take the game on, which is exciting.”

The match will be broadcast live on Fox Cricket, Kayo and ABC Radio, with the match beginning at 6:10pm ACDT.

**Edit: SA bowler Darcie Brown has since been added to the squad to replace an injured Taneale Peschel.
