The Scorpions captain continued her fine form from Australia’s successful Ashes defence in England to claim figures of 3/24, including a maiden, from just seven overs in Sunday’s clash with the Fire.
Schutt dismissed both Queensland openers cheaply during her spell, sending Fire captain Kirby Short’s bails flying with a trademark inswinger from well outside off-stump.
Spinner Alex Price chipped in with two wickets while young Scorpion Eliza Doddridge also picked up two from just 2.1 overs.
Samantha Betts and first-year Scorpions Stacey Oates and Darcie Brown contributed a wicket apiece to dismiss Queensland for 232 inside 46 overs.
South Australia looked on track early in its chase as opener Bridget Patterson (47) combined with Tegan McPharlin (25) and later Doddridge (27) to build a strong platform.
But the Scorpions’ middle order failed to fire, as South Australia finished all out for 158 despite some late hitting from Oates (12) and Brown (19) in the final partnership.
The squad will now continue pre-season preparations ahead of next month’s Women’s National Cricket League opener against New South Wales at Karen Rolton Oval on 22 September.
