Just two months after the Sheffield Shield final in Alice Springs, the day began with a 2km time trial in which Sayers placed in the top three, closely following young Redbacks Harry Nielsen and Nick Winter.
“After falling short last year the boys are excited and raring to go and we want to be number one,” he said.
“Schwerdty (Physical Performance Manager Stephen Schwerdt) never fails to get into us so I’m sure it’ll be another tough pre-season, but that’ll bring the best out of us and make us a better team this year.”
The 2016-17 Neil Dansie medallist headlined a fierce bowling attack which has only grown stronger over the years, and is even further bolstered by talented quicks Nick Winter and Spencer Johnson for the new season.
“We’ve got a great bowling unit and we have had for the last four or five years and we’re always pushing each other to get better.
“The competition is as good as it’s ever been and there are new faces around which strives us to get better as well.”
