Megan Schutt, Amanda-Jade Wellington, Ashleigh Gardner and Tahlia McGrath are the SA Scorpions quartet being recognised for their current form.

“I think that it’s a really good achievement on behalf of the group that demonstrates that as a squad, they are going really well and being quite competitive, which means the Aussie selectors are looking around to see why that is; these four have certainly earned their spot,” Scorpions Head Coach Andrea McCauley said.

While Schutt, Wellington and Gardner all have earned Cricket Australia contracts for 2017-18, McGrath has been plucked from a large pool of State players, following her performance in round one of the Women’s National Cricket League and during pre-season training camps with the Australian team.

“I think it’s pretty special when you’ve watched someone from the age of 15 mature as a player and go through to the Australian team,” said McCauley, who is in her fifth season of coaching the Scorpions.

“Tahlia had some disappointment earlier in the year with stress fractures in her back and has used that as a positive to push herself harder and work really hard in the gym. Obviously the selectors have been really happy with what they have seen, both at training camps and in round one.”

Australia’s Test squad will be reduced to 13 players following the three-day tour match against an ACT Invitational XI from 3-5 November, while a Twenty20 squad will be announced following the third ODI.
