Chasing 378 for victory following a Victorian declaration of 172, Smith and captain Jake Winter piled on 177 runs for the first wicket to put the Redbacks in a strong position heading into the final day of play.

Smith crafted a fine 137 from 228 balls before he was dismissed LBW, while Ross smashed 18 boundaries in an unbeaten 111 to steer SA to its second consecutive Futures League win.

Cam Valente, who played every game of the Redbacks’ JLT One-Day campaign, finished not out on 43 runs. The all-rounder also claimed five wickets for the match.

South Australia hosts ACT/NSW Country at Woodville Oval from Monday, 20 November in the next round of Futures League action.
