Women's Twenty20 - South Australian Scorpions v VicSpirit
7 January 2010, Adelaide Oval
With their Twenty20 season on the line the Scorpions fired at full throttle with the ball in their curtain raiser to the KFC Big Bash against the Vic Spirit at Adelaide Oval on Thurdays evening.
Disciplined and calm bowling was brilliantly supported by the Scorpions’ fielders as they claimed the visiting side’s top 6 batters for only 52, largely due to Neisha Iles (3-15) and Stephanie Morrison (2-23). However, sensible batting from Victoria’s young Australian representative
Jess Cameron (41 off 47) aided the visitors in reaching 120 off their allotted overs.
The continuous fall of wickets around skipper Karen Rolton’s well compiled 49 off 50 made life difficult for the home side as they surrendered an 18 run victory to the Spirit, undoing all the hard work they had done in the field and diminishing any hope they might have had of making the finals of the competition.

Women's Twenty20 - South Australian Scorpions v Konica Minolta Queensland Fire
Scorpions back in the hunt
The South Australian Scorpions are back in the Twenty20 title contention after a solid victory at home against the Konica Minolta Queensland Fire at Park 25 earlier today.
Chasing 109 for victory the Scorpions made light work of the Fire’s total losing only one wicket, reeling in the total in the 17th over.
Star all-rounder Shelley Nitschke again looked ominous with a quick- fire 26 off 24, whilst Julie Woerner (54 off 49) was in splendid touch notching up yet another half century this season. Scorpion captain, Karen Rolton also pitched in with a solid 23 off 32.
Earlier in the day the Scorpions collected wickets at regular intervals, with the standout performance coming from senior Scorpions’ player Neisha Iles. Iles claimed the top three Fire batters with tremendous tenacity finishing with the figures of 3/11 off 4. Scorpions’ rookie Megan Schutt playing in only her second match also claimed two valuable runouts to assist the home side.
The battle between the two sides continues tomorrow with the first of the 50 over matches in the Women's National Cricket League starting at 10am at park 25 tomorrow.

Women's Twenty20 - Cripps Tasmanian Roar v South Australian Scorpions
6 December NTCA Ground, Tasmania
An impressive 67 off 53 balls from the South Australian Scorpions' opener Shelley Nitschke was unfortunately not enough to secure victory for the visitors as they faced the Cripps Tasmanian Roar in their first ever encounter in the Women’s National Twenty20 Competition.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat. The Scorpions were put on the back foot early after losing in-form opener Julie Woerner in the second over but the experienced campaigners and Australian representatives Shelley Nitschke and South Australian Captain, Karen Rolton (30 off 32) formed a defendable target for the Scorpions. Loose bowling and some hard hitting saw the pair forge a 93 run partnership to take the Scorpions' total to 1/97.
The Roar fought back by dismissin Nitschke and Rolton as they looked to hit out towards the final stages of the innings and the Scorpions' posted 6/125 from their 20 overs.
Early wickets and tight bowling from the opening bowlers Steph Morrison (2/20 off 4) and Sarah Carver (0/14 off 4) allowed the visitors a foot in the door, however a solid batting partnership between New South Wales import Erin Burn and former Australian player Julia Price provided some difficulties for the Scorpions.
Dropped chances in the field and some aggressive running between the wickets saw the Roar snare the required 126 with the loss of 4 wickets on the second ball of the day.
The Scorpions’ require three wins from their last three Twenty20 fixtures if they are to make a charge on the Twenty20 table leaders and some stand-out individual performances in recent matches suggests that they are capable of doing so.

The Scorpions' next game is at home against the Konica-Minolta Queensland Fire on Friday 11 December at Park 25. Admission is free with play getting underway at 3:30pm.
Women's Twenty20 - South Australian Scorpions v Western Australian Fury
13 November 2009 - St. Peter's College
SA Scorpions 3/151
WA Fury 5/116
The South Australian Scorpions have secured a bonus point with a comfortable victory over the Western Fury in the Women's Twenty20 match at St Peters College on Friday. Set 152 for victory, the Fury fell 35 runs short of the target thanks to some tight bowling from Shelley Nitschke (2-19). But the win was set up early in the day after the Scorpions won the toss and elected to bat.
The South Australians amassed a solid total of 3-151 on the back of Julie Woerner's 45 off 37 deliveries and Karen Rolton's 57 off 43. Their partnership of 62 was made at breakneck speed as they torched the Fury bowling attack. Jess Moyes was the pick of the WA bowlers with figures of 2-31 off her four overs. While the Fury started solidly, their innings never really got going with wickets falling at regular intervals. Lauren Ebsary top-scored with 32 before being run out, while Rene Farrell chipped in with 24 not out.
