Level 1 Umpire Program
The Cricket Australia Level 1 Umpiring Program which is targeted at the new umpire, parent or players who undertake umpiring duties for your association. It is an introductory program which covers the basic knowledge and skills required to umpire at a community level.
The Level 1 Program includes the following
• Level 1 Workbook
• Interactive CD-Rom
• Match Day DVD
• Laws of Cricket
• Cricket Australia Level 1 Umpire Shirt
• Certificate
• National Officiating Accreditation Scheme (NOAS) level 1 accreditation with the Australian Sports Commission and Cricket Australia
The course takes 3 hours to complete and is available to groups of 15 or more run locally for your association.
The normal cost of this course is $45 and SACA, as part of its commitment to umpiring and community cricket are offering this course at only $25pp as well as covering any cost associated with sending an instructor to deliver the course.
Level 2 Umpire Program
This course has been designed to meet the training and education needs of umpires registered with cricket associations who have made a commitment to umpiring and seek to attain a higher standard of performance through continuous improvement of their knowledge and skills.
This course is provided to umpires in an external mode with most of the course being self paced. If enough members of your association are involved then group sessions to support the course material will also be provided locally.
The course takes approximately 4 months to complete and involves an assessment process which can be undertaken if the participant is available to umpire in one of the Adelaide Carnivals which involves community and country associations.

The total cost of the course, including cost of delivering this course, all materials, group instruction sessions (regardless of location) and individual assessments, is $70 per person (a cost subsidised by the SACA).

Online Resources
Officials can now learn online!
The Australian Sports Commission has developed an online course for beginner officials. The Introductory Officiating General Principles course has been developed to assist new officials improve their basic officiating skills.
A major benefit of the online course is that officials can complete it in their own time from the comfort of their home. Thanks to a subsidy from the Australian Sports Commission, the online course is initially available free of charge to Australian officials. (Officials must have an Australian postal address).
About the course
The course contains three modules of training — Self-management, Managing the Competition Environment, and People Management. The modules cover a range of general officiating topics, including ethical responsibilities of officials, preparation for officiating, safety, Communication, dealing with conflict, and people management.
The course takes approximately four hours to complete, and there is assessment included at the end of each module. Officials have six months to complete the course after they register.
Becoming an accredited official
The Introductory Officiating General Principles course can provide the first step towards accreditation. Umpires who desire to obtain their Level 2 Accreditation must have completed this online course.
