Dress code

The Members’ Enclosure at Adelaide Oval is a special place.  For 140 years, it has been a social hub during great sporting occasions. Fashions have changed over the years but the idea has remained the same: it’s a place to celebrate the special occasion by dressing appropriately. The minimum standard is neat casual.

Males who forget to wear a collar will not be admitted, even if they are wearing a jacket. This will be strictly enforced throughout the season, so please advise your guests to wear a collar to avoid embarrassment at the gate.

All ages are expected to wear clean and tidy clothing and children aged ten and above must follow the adult dress standards.  All children should be supervised by an adult.

Male

  • Neat casual attire
  • A collared shirt (with or without a jacket or sweater), from age 10 
  • Mandarin or grandpa collars
  • National costume or religious requirements such as a clerical collar
  • Officially licensed replica Redbacks, Strikers or one day international shirt (Australia and competing teams)
  • Dress shorts, trousers, neat jeans, denim, camouflage patterned or cargo pants

Female

  • Neat casual attire
  • Dress or walk style shorts; neat jeans and denim 
  • Officially licensed replica Redbacks, Strikers or one day international shirt (Australia and competing teams)
  • Minimum mid-thigh length dresses, skirts and shorts
  • Dresses, blouses and T-shirts may be sleeveless
  • Dress (all styles, including strapless) skirts or dress slacks with modest blouse or top
  • Footless tights only if worn with appropriate length dress or skirt
  • Camouflage patterned or cargo pants

Footwear

  • Enclosed shoes, open toe dress sandals, sandals, masseur or leather slip-ons
  • Sneaker type shoes provided they are clean and in good condition
  • ‘Birkenstocks’

Male

  • Shirts without a collar
  • Shirts not supported by a collar, including crew neck shirts (skivvies accepted)
  • T-shirts, singlets or tank tops
  • Ripped, frayed or torn clothing – regardless of current fashion trends
  • Football, running, athletic, bike and tennis shorts (except by athletes or coaching staff and officials involved in the day’s events)
  • Boxer, Hawaiian style or board shorts
  • Track suit pants
  • Work overalls
  • Beachwear
  • Unclean clothing or clothing with obscene or offensive messages

Female

  • Brief or revealing tops that show bare midriff
  • Micro mini-length shorts, skirts or dresses
  • Brief shorts (football or athletic), boxer or board shorts
  • Ripped, frayed or torn clothing – regardless of fashion trends
  • Leggings or track suit pants
  • Bathers, bikinis or similar beach wear
  • Clothing that’s unclean or has obscene or offensive messages

Footwear

  • Rubber thongs (flat or heeled)
  • Dilapidated footwear
  • Gumboots, moccasins, slippers or “ugg” boots 
  • Bare feet
  • 'Crocs'
  • Toe shoes

Hats

  • Novelty hats or sombreros
  • Hats that may block others’ view

Umbrellas

Umbrellas are permitted, but in respect for others they may not be raised during play.
