Redbacks announce two changes for WA trip

March 02, 2016

The West End Redbacks have made two changes to their squad that will travel to Perth this week ahead of their clash against the Western Warriors at the WACA starting from Saturday, 5 March.

Pacemen Cameron Valente has been omitted from the squad and is replaced by the returning Chadd Sayers, who comes in after touring New Zealand with the Australian Test squad.

Sayers returns to the side in good form, taking figures of 6/28 for Glenelg against Adelaide University in the West End Premier Cricket competition last weekend.

Young spinner Tom Andrews also misses out on selection with the Redbacks selectors opting for a pace-bowling attack, adding Nick Benton to the squad who was unavailable for selection against New South Wales last round due to illness.

Speaking to media today, Redbacks pace-bowler Daniel Worrall said the team was heavily focused on winning the last two matches and hadn’t ruled out playing in the Sheffield Shield final.

“At the end of the day we have to win two games of cricket to give ourselves a chance of playing in the Shield Final, it’s as simple as that," said Worrall.

“Mennie has been outstanding all year and has played in every fixture for the Redbacks which is an outstanding achievement for a quick and the batters are working as hard as they can. So we’re trusting in the work everyone is doing to prepare for the game.”

South Australia missed a good opportunity to climb up the standings last week, falling to New South Wales despite being in a strong position early, but Worrall says the team has learned from that match and put it behind them now.

“We talked about it at the end of the game and spoke about how we make sure of our position in the game and play in certain situations," added Worrall.

“Unfortunately we didn’t do that to the best of our ability on the morning of day three, so going into this game we need to make sure that we take it to the fourth day and final session to give ourselves a chance of winning the game.”

The Redbacks’ match against Western Australia will be available via live stream on www.cricket.com.au with play beginning at 10.30am (local time).
